Indoor Environment

There are very few defined parameters for indoor air quality relating to current legislation, but standards for air quality in buildings are published by both the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Typically, a main concern an office environment is odour and air quality. An example of the range of parameters that we measure are:

  • Odours from ammonia and organic compounds
  • Microbiological contamination
  • Localised and general airborne dust
  • Air temperature
  • Humidity
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Ozone
  • Air movement
  • Identification of any insects present

The maintenance of a healthy office environment is covered by:

  • The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations, 1992
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, 2002;
  • Factories Act, 1963.
